Enhance Math Learning with Free Math AI Tools

by Lori Gracey

If you’re working with math teachers (or are one yourself) and are wondering how artificial intelligence could be integrated into the subject with your students, here are a couple of free math AI tools that will help you enhance math learning.

Free Math AI Tools

Math Studio

I recently discovered Math Studio, a free AI app to quickly learn new math topics or review old ones. Type in what you want to learn and it provides you with four different ways to master the content:

  • Video lesson
  • Text lesson
  • Practice questions with solutions
  • Flash cards

For the prompts, I used “adding fractions” first and then “factoring equations” as my second trial. (Obviously, how specific you make the prompt determines the value of what you get back from the AI.) It takes a few extra seconds to generate the practice questions than it does the other three, but it’s not much of a wait.

I’m not sure how accurate this is, TBH, as I am a former ELA teacher and not math. So I would love to hear from some of you math experts as to its validity.

MagicSchool Math Spiral Review Generator

This is one of the many, many free tools available to educators in MagicSchool. It allows you to create brief, targeted spiral review activities designed to help students practice and reinforce both mastered skills and areas that require further attention.

Math Story Word Problems

Another MagicSchool tool, this one lets you craft math word problems that are tailored to specific mathematical concepts and story topics, making learning more engaging and relatable for students.

Microsoft Math Solver

This free tool, available on the web and as a free app for Android and iOS devices, not only helps students find the answer, but also includes solution steps, a quiz on the topic, and short videos.

Science and Math Tutor for Students

Flexi from CK12 is another free math AI tool. Using the Ask Flexi prompt screen, students can ask questions and see examples of how to solve common math problems or learn more about science topics. It is text-based, so no illustrations or videos are included unfortunately. No login is required to use this feature; for other tools that they offer, a free registration is required.

Chatbot Prompts

Of course, you can also teach students to use specific chatbot prompts that will show them how to solve a problem. For students younger than 13, try using Byte by CodebreakerEDU, which is designed for younger children (although it works fine for older students, too).

Here are some samples below with the emphasis on the learning and not just the solution:

  • Show me a strategy to multiply a two-digit number by a one-digit number without a calculator. Example is 79*8.
  • Show me how to find a percentage of a number like 25% of 70.
  • Explain why counting the number of decimal places and moving the decimal point works when multiplying decimals.

How are you using AI in math for better learning?
