The WeTeach_CS program at the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) is a teacher professional development program that has empowered more than 600 K-12 educators to integrate and advance computer science (CS) education in their classrooms. Through our multitude of amazing professional development opportunities—all available at NO COST—WeTeach_CS educates, empowers, and inspires K-12 CS teachers, administrators, professional development providers, and university instructors to realize the vision of CS For All!

WTCS Secondary Cert Prep Hubs: These hubs help TX teachers to gain certification in Computer Science 8-12 (TExES 241) and EC-12 Technology Applications (TExES 242). Hubs offer a series of professional development experiences for a cohort of teachers covering all the content and domains of the certification exams. They include both in-person and virtual learning opportunities, mentorship, and connections to a community of other teachers and content experts. We_Teach Cyber Hubs: WeTeach_Cyber fulfills this mission by coordinating with school districts, industry partners, and cybersecurity organizations to provide impactful content resources, presentations, workshops, and educator collaboratives. In the middle school hub, educators gain invaluable insights into AI concepts, are equipped with comprehensive lesson plans, and explore the ethical and societal implications of AI. The high school hub’s mission is to empower both educators and students with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in the rapidly evolving landscape of technology. Launch_K5 CS: Our 3-day program that empowers K-5 educators with the tools and training to seamlessly integrate the Technology Applications TEKS (standards) into their teaching practices, preparing students for success in the digital age. Educators receive ready-to-use K-5 lessons, develop skills in block-based coding and physical computing, and get a physical computing kit, all at no cost!

Project ROCS: The Rural Opportunities in Computer Science (ROCS) project will recruit and support a cohort of up to 25 educators who currently do not teach computer science to grow their CS knowledge and skills, enabling them to teach high school computer science courses. This training will be held June 4-5 at TACC in Austin. Transportation, lodging, and per diem costs will be reimbursed for accepted applicants. Upon completion, educators will also receive a stipend.

Texas CS Leadership Network: The Texas Computer Science Leadership Network (TXCSLN) is a community of practice for CS administrators and teacher leaders to discuss the most pressing challenges in CS education. Participation is limited to CS leaders on campuses, districts, and education service centers along with Texas institutions of higher education leaders in the CS Education space interested in building the K-12 pipeline. Virtual meetings are held on Mondays from 4-5 p.m. Central Standard Time. Our most recent meeting was on Feb. 24 and focused on CS education opportunities for English language learners.

WTCS Change Maker and Mini-Grant Awards: Established in 2016, these annual awards are given to dedicated CS teachers and administrators who bring innovative strategies to their classrooms and serve as leaders for expanded CS opportunities in their schools and districts. Two WeTeach_CS Change Maker (Teacher) Awards of $750 each will be given in 2025. One lucky administrator will win a $750 Change Maker-Admin/Counselor Award! You may self-nominate for both awards! Nominations are due by March 21.Our Mini-Grant Awards support instructional resources and materials used for teaching and learning K-12 CS. Eligible applicants are Texas teachers in private, public or charter schools. Institutions of recipients will be provided up to $5,000 in advance of projects to support CS activities which must be completed by May 31, 2026. Ten awards are up for grabs, so submit your nominations today! Nominations are due by March 21.
