Reach Every Student with Free Online Tutoring from UPchieve

by Katy Laird

How is one teacher supposed to reach 30 students on 30 different levels? Whether you’re pulling your students into small groups, furiously differentiating your materials, or making time where none exists to meet with students individually, we always need more one-on-one time with students than we have. UPchieve for Teachers is a brand new, free online tutoring tool that can help you reach each student where they are. We can’t give you more time, but we can give your students one-on-one attention from patient, knowledgeable tutors on exactly the skill or assignment you know they need support with.

What is UPchieve?

UPchieve is an ed tech nonprofit that makes free online tutoring and college counseling available to any low-income middle or high school student in the U.S. Students can get help from UPchieve coaches in any core academic subject, plus college counseling.

Students and teachers love UPchieve because of our:

  • One-on-one help for everyone
  • Available 24/7 on-demand
  • 5 minute wait time
  • Trained and qualified coaches
  • Secure, safe environment
  • “Judgment free zone” where students can freely ask questions

What is UPchieve for Teachers?

Our brand-new teacher tool, UPchieve for Teachers, gives teachers the ability to assign and monitor the free online tutoring students receive on UPchieve.

By using UPchieve for Teachers, educators can:

  • Give their students’ unlimited access to 24/7 tutoring and college counseling
  • Use UPchieve’s online tutors to support their instruction
  • Ensure their students work on the skills and assignments they need the most help with
  • Monitor student usage
  • Easily share student progress with admin or parents

3 Ways to Use UPchieve to Support Your Instruction

1. Fill in Gaps with Review and Practice

Do you already know the skills your students need to master your grade-level material? You can assign time with a tutor on UPchieve for students to practice and review those prerequisite skills.

Example Assignment:

2. Complete Grade-Level Classwork with Extra Support

Some of your students will need extra support to complete their grade-level assignments. Instead of (or in addition to) adapting your materials to meet them where they are, have your students complete the assignment with an UPchieve tutor.

Example Assignment:

3. Complete Classwork Outside of Class Time

When you run out of time in class, use UPchieve to give students the chance to finish their classwork without losing the ability to ask questions or review concepts. You can also use UPchieve to help students catch up on missed work when they’re absent.
