Things I Love

My husband and I were having a “discussion” the other night after work. He was mentioning that sometimes, it seemed like I loved my iPhone more than I loved him. For the sake of our marriage, I didn’t tell him that sometimes, that was true! (After all, my iPhone doesn’t argue with me or forget to put the butter back in the refrigerator.) But his words did get me thinking. Besides all of the amazing people in my life, what do I really love? In honor of Valentine’s Day, I thought I would put together my list. And I encourage you to take a few minutes and do the same.

I do love my iPhone. I love all of the apps that I have on it; they’re become almost like old friends that I can always count on to be there for me, no matter my mood or what is happening in my life. I love having a library of tens of thousands of different books available to read at any time with the Kindle app. I love that the device can help the oh-so-geographically-challenged me navigate to all of the places that I need to go. And I love listening to music on it while I’m doing something else.

I love working with the TCEA staff and board. I have never, in all of my life, met such a dedicated and tireless group of people. They constantly amaze me with their brilliance and their passion and their courage to try new things as they seek to serve our members. Being with them is such a gift to me, and it makes me a better person every day.

I love the possibilities that educational technology and all of its accompanying resources are providing to our children. The ability to differentiate and even personalize learning to meet individual student needs is completely overwhelming. And the fact that it can be done relatively easily and quickly is almost mind blowing. As someone who taught “long ago” without any of these tools, I am awed by the potential educators have today for truly changing the world, one student at a time.

I love social media. While it has been hard the last few weeks to follow it and remain positive in the face of all of the negative talk, I still find it an astonishing way to connect with people next to me and all around the world. I learn something new every single time I am on Twitter. And that alone is a powerful thing. Add in the resources I find on Pinterest and the fun I have with my friends and family on Facebook, and I know that these avenues can still be a force for good.

I couldn’t end this blog without adding that I love queso. To me, there is no greater food than this sublime dip. Paired with the right chips and with some guacamole on the side, queso is a little taste of heaven.

Here’s wishing you a Valentine’s Day filled with amazing technology, wonderful colleagues, positive social media, and queso!
